Mirror Stained - Macrocarpa Yoke mirror medium 600mm X 300mm

This artisan piece was milled from Macrocarpa trees grown as dairy shelter belts at Puhi Puhi, Northland .The trees were removed after Macrocarpa foliage was found to cause cows to abort their calves. Some of the trees were 2.5m in diameter. All lumber was milled with an Alaskan mill. No screws or nails  were used in the crafting of this mirror. This hand crafted mirror was finished with Californian Orange Oil and sealed with Teak Wax

This mirror is called a yoke mirror because it resembles the yoke used  by the early timber cutters to harness their horses to the sled or trailer they were pulling . It was common to use large draft horses or Bullocks for this tough job on the forestry trails .

This one off hand crafted NZ made  mirror is another piece of functional art made in Pauls artisan workshop in Waipu,  Northland.
