Stool - Macrocarpa Top 270mm X 330 mm Height 450 mm
This Macrocarpa seat stool, has totara legs. The seat was milled at Puhipuhi, Northland ,from trees grown as dairy shelterbelts . Some trees were up to 2.5m diameter. The trees were slowly removed from most dairy farms as the foliage could cause the cows to abort their calves in calving season. The legs are made from Totara saplings that grow wild from seeds continually dropping on to dairy pasture from adjacent bush & sprouting . Without controlled thinning these saplings would take over the dairy pasture.
This stool is finished with orange oil and teak wax.
There are no screws or nails used in the crafting of this furniture all joints are mortise & tenon.
This one off hand crafted NZ made stool is another piece of functional art made in Pauls artisan workshop in Waipu, Northland
